The Oscars 2011...

The topic currently high on my fashion agenda this week has got to be the Oscars. Every magazine right now is covered in the beauty from the red carpet and I feel it is my obligation to report back what I think.

I love the glitz and glamour of events like this. Beautiful women (and men, James Franco - yum) sauntering down the catwalks in fashions highest labels, dripping with jewellery and just looking utterly amazing is not something to miss out on. With dresses falling to the floor like shimmering water, and heels rivalling the Eiffel Tower, the fashion at the Oscars stands out from all of the other award ceremonies we see throughout the year.

In my opinion the best dressed at the Oscars this year was Mila Kunis. In a romantic styled chiffon Elie Saab Haute Couture gown, she completely steals the show. This beauty could look amazing in a bin bag, but with a simple updo and subtle make up the focus is completely on the stunning gown. Mila Kunis is definitely one to watch in the fashion stakes this year.

Epitamising the word glamour, Amy Adams looked totally amazing in her sparkling blue L'Wren Scott gown. With it's high neckline and striking colour, she showed us all how to combine sexiness and sophistication, she definitely did not blend in with the crowd on this one. I love love love this dress, if only I could afford one of my own, and have such an event to wear it to!

Natalie Portman looked a picture of pure beauty this year, showing off her increasingly large baby bump. Sporting a silk shiffon dress by Rodarte in a gorgeous shade of violet draped in Swarovski crystals she look positively glowing.

One lady who went dress change crazy was host Anne Hathaway with an impressive eight changes during the evening. The elegant deep red Versace gown and the beautifully embellished Givenchy Haute Couture are definitely my favourites of the evening. However even in a Lanvin tuxedo, the starlett still manages to look every inch a feminine icon.

However, not quite everyone got it quite right on the night. Nicole Kidman did absolutely nothing for her figure in this Christian Dior Haute Couture dress. Excessively embroided and of a strange structure the dress looked a little more like an oriental tablecloth and the pale coloured just emphasised her pale skin. Usually getting it spot on on the red carpet, I can't help but feel a little let down with her choice this year.

Cate Blanchett was another one selecting a dress with a odd structure. Although with beautiful flowing skirting, the top half of the Givenchy dress looked over embellished annd the splashes of yellow colouring on the shoulders look a little like something has been spilt on it. It just looks a bit too bizarre for such a prestiguous event.
